LOVE AND GENEROSITY WILL BE IN THE AIR
- A benefit for the Barbados Hospice & Palliative Care Initiative

January 25, 2017

BROOKLYN, NY -- The Barbados Cancer Association USA (BACA), Inc. will host its 2nd annual 'An Evening of Love' concert at The Church of St. Mark, Episcopal on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 6:00 p.m., featuring the smoothest, “saxiest” saxophonist Arturo Tappin of Barbados, mezzo soprano Grace Hackett, soloists Natasha Radix and Mijon Zulu, and the BACA Combined Voices choir. Coordinator and conductor is the highly accomplished organist R. Steven LeGall. A reception will follow in the undercroft.

Proceeds will go towards the hospice and palliative care home to be constructed on the Living Water Community complex at St. David’s, Barbados.

Hospice and palliative care is a concept that provides pain and symptom management and support to patients and families facing progressive, life-limiting illnesses.

According to BACA’s president Dr. O’Neall E. Parris, “the concert fits in well with BACA’s ongoing fundraising and awareness efforts and we are hoping that Barbadians and others will support the hospice initiative. Last year the talent was exceptional and received rave reviews. We are back by popular demand, so come join us on February 4th and support the cause.”

Cancer Symposium Named in Honor of Dr. Deborah Brathwaite

The annual BACA, CAMSA and BNAA cancer symposium has been renamed in honor of former CAMSA President Dr. Deborah Brathwaite who succumbed to breast cancer in 2013.  Present for the announcement were her daughter Sharifa Dickenson and sister Gail Brathwaite, a long-standing supporter of BACA.  The announcement was made at the September 13, 2014 symposium on breast cancer disparities keynoted by Dr. Kathie-Ann Joseph, Director of Breast Services at Bellevue Hospital. Dr. Brathwaite was a key organizer of these annual symposia.
